Hello. I'm a newbie to U-Matic, and I had a couple of questions. Maybe you people can answer them. I just got ahold of a Sony U-Matic VO-5850. It apparently hasn't been touched forseveral years, and I'm trying to incorporate it into my Edit System.

1. The picture rolls, as if it doesn't have synchronization. Is there a way to fix this?2. I don't get any audio out of the machine, except when I record things on the machine itself. The audio seems to have a 60Hz tone in it as well... but that may be my equipment. Regardless, I don't see any audio on the meters. I get video, but again, it's rolling.

If this can/cannot be easily fixed, or if you have any advice, please send it my way. I'dlike to keep this machine, but if it does't work, then I'll junk it.

P.S. I'll look on E-Bay, but where do you think I could find a service manual for this?

We are some people here in Denmark who have been happy working with the U-Matic system for many years. Now we work with computer-editing and with systems based on BetacamSP. We have to move to another location, and in our cellar we found some of our loved equipment - we have carried it through storms and water and the gear have helped us coming home with a lot of good stories, good pictures and we sometimes had to say "Thank God for the BVU110 - without it, we would have come home without anything". Some of it have been very helpfull during editing - we feel, we know the location of every buttum.But we dont have room for it anymore - check our web-site and see, if you need any of the items. I have a Sony PD150 PAL Camera and I was recording a wedding video on a mini DV Tape. When I played it back it had lines. Digital pixilization. I thought the footage was ruined. But Then I played it on an NTSC camera and it looks fine. the only problem is that you can't out put a PAL tape from an NTSC camera. What do I do? Can I fix this tape?

I have 2 BVU-800 machines which remain in 'Stand-by/Search' mode when I rewind (or fast forward) a tape. That can't be good for either heads or tape.Does anyone know if there is a switch setting somewhere to change that?I only have a service manual but can't find a reference.

Need some advise. I have a BVT 800 being offered to me. I (simply) want to preserve some older VHS martial art tapes to DVD.

Will this Sony BVT 800 adapt to a standard VCR and correct the signal for output to my RT2500 video editor? Cannot seem to find the answer other than it works with a BVU unit.

If any suggestions as to an optimum way of acheiving this goal would be very welcome.

I have a BVU 150P portable that has been in storage for a couple of years or so,was working perfectly. Now when powered up will only play and record in monochrome. Anybody got any idea what the problem could be?

Charlie: No - the BVT -800 is designed to work with the BVU series Umatics as a TBC only.

Now I have a question: Have a Fujinon Remote/Rear zoom control and want it to work with a Canon Lens...Seem to remember its as simple as swapping a couple of wires, anyone know more than this?

I just bought a Sony VO-6800 portable recorder on E-Bay.It did not come with a dc power cord or battries.I have finally been able to make up a dc power cord to connect to my ac power supply and the recorder. I have recently acquired a BVT-500 to work with my 5850/RM-440 set-up.The problem I have is that the output signal ever so slowly scrolls, about 2-3 lines a second. And not smoothly but in little jumps. It happens both in DUB and Composite outputs.I can't find any adjustments in the manual. Suggestions anybody?

The BVU-800P is the PAL version of the BVU-800, otherwise absolutely the same.

RoderickThe BVT500 TBC requires advanced sync connection to the VTR. The mode switch on the front of the VTR should be switched to TBC.

Simon: To transfer from umatic, or any other VCR, you'll need a serious capture card for your PC. Don't go for the cheap ones as they will loose you a lot of detail. You'll need a large SCSI hard-drive, standard drives are too slow for video capture. Cables: BNC for the video output of the umatic machine and either RCA or XLR, depending on the umatic model, for audio. If you plan to do a lot of transfers without any editing or changes, you may be better off purchasing a dedicated DVD recorder.

i am looking forsome info on a panasonic ag-7450 video camera

The AG-7450 is not a camera, that unit is a dockable SVHS deck for ENG/field use. ITs often confused for the name of a camera, but it will dock directly to a WV-F250, 565, and to the CLE -200. 300 with an adapter.

Cost around $ 3000 new but I have picked up nice units for under $ 200 online. You will pay a significant amount more for the 7450 with the camera head, lens, and viewfinder.

Since these systems can appear in many different configurations its hard to put a price on them. A ballpark figure: $ 800 -$1000 for the camera head, lens, ENG Viewfinder, AG-7450, and case. A studio viewfinder, power supply, battery and tripod will probably cost you more.

Hi everyone, I have sound problems with my Sony 5630. When I record through the usual line-chinch inputs, the sound is very distorted yet very low volume. When I do the same thing in Channel 1 Dub the sound is perfect. Where could that problem be, what components are failling? Playing is flawless, dubbing as well but ordinary recording is barely audible and worse than bad fm-reception driving a car in a tunnel. Adjusting levels or limiter doesn't affect it at all, except from changing from low volume to inaudible.Any help appreciatedRobert

The VO-9800 is able to play back LO-band. It is not able to record in the LO-band mode.

For sale: Convergence 200. This is an A/B roll edit controller. It is configured to controltwo players Sony VO-5800 /50 (44-pin?) and one recorder Sony BVU-800 (RS-422 Sony protocol).If you can pick it up it is for free. If not you pay for the transport in advance. The unit comes with all the manuals and cables. I never tested the unit but it should be in good working order. The controller is CTL based.

I have picked up a lot of 2 old JVC PR 900 and a PR 600, but didn't realize thewe were HiBand only - is there any way to get them to play back low band tapes in color? This is just a picture reference, so I would care so much about quality.....
