I was E-mailed a price list by TAPES4LESS.COM. They advertised 90 minute Sony KCA series tapes and 30 minute KCS tapes. This isn't on the site itself- they sent me an updated listing. I've never heard of tapes holding that much, has anyone else?

Hello,

I have a SONY RM-440 editor for my VO-5850. I also have a Panasonic AG-6200. Is there any way to make the three units talk to each other in an editing environment? In other words, is it possible to control the AG-6200 with the RM-440? Thanks for a rapid reply.

HEllo everyone!! I NEED THE PEOPLE OF THE U-MATIC COMMUNITY TO HELP ME!!I have a BVU-820 and it has been working great. I just put a tape in the machine & it was playing. When I stop & hit rerwind on the machine, the tape fully rewinded, but it wont eject!! The eject light is on, but the tape will not eject. I've pressed the eject button and all the other buttons and nothing happens!! I opened the cover to see what's going inside, but I'm not a U-matic specialist!! I do know that the tape was in the process of ejecting, but somewhere along the way, something went wrong!!

As fate would have it!! I'm in the middle of a project for a client. This tape was having the audio relayed to it, and now this happens!! Can anyone out there please help me with this problem?? I will greatly appreciate it!! Thank you!!

Hi. I'm a big collector of old Countdown episodes particularly the ones from the 1974-1977 era. But most of the episodes from that era were deleted in the late 70's under the orders of the ABC general manager so the tapes could be re-used because the cost of video tapes doubled. So what doesn't exist in the archives might exist on home video although people with VCRs in their homes in the mid 70's is pretty rare, but schools, colleges and industries had either Philips N1500, N1501, N1502 etc. VCRs or Sony U-Matic VCRs or even reel-reel VTRS. I was wondering is there anyone here who has taped Countdown in the mid 70's on a Philips VCR or U-Matic or VTR and still have the tapes in their collection, or even know of anyone who might have 70's Countdowns on any of these tapes? If so please email me at [email protected] because I desperately want to buy copies of any early episode.

I have a number of 70's episode which I've taped from Rage Countdown repeats, however the majority of them are from the late 70's.

Also I've been doing some bin scabbing at Wollongong TAFE and pulled out 38 U-Matic cassettes and a lot of them appear to be blanks and are Scotch UCA -30 ( 30 minute) and UCA-60 (60 minute) cassettes and some are Video Telex KAC 60 and have some slightly smaller ones called Panasonic NV-P22S 20 minute cassettes. Now I've found a place in Sydney on the net that sells V05800 U-Matic systems and reading the specifications of that machine at U-Matic PAL site the types of tapes compatible with this player are BRS and XBR type. I'm a little confused about this, and I was wondering if any of the cassettes I mentioned such as The Scotch UCAs are compatible with the V05800?

Hello, just wondering if you have had any replies regarding your post on the umatic chat page about some 1/2 portapack tape you want transferred. I assume you are talking about the older open reel format? if so I beleive the name for it is "j" format, it uses the same size tape as VHS but the recorded signal on it is totally different. These machines were only manafactured for a short time during the early- to mid 70's Anyhow I would be most certainly be able to help you with a transfer to VHS tape or other formats as I have a working machine here that play material back on with no problems. I specialise in transferring older formats, I'm located in country victoria (St Arnaud), Australia so at least I'm local and getting the tapes to me and back is not going to be a problem :) Let me know a bit more about the tapes/reels how many, and their condition and I we can come to some sort of arrangement. Look forward to hearing from you. James Paterson

Also has anyone out there got a lens hood that will fit on a DXC M2.

Steve, I used a Panasonic WV-F200 camera to a VO-8800. I assume the 8800 and 6800 uses the same 14 pin connectors. The WV-F200 uses a 32 pin connector. Does your JVC uses a 32,26,14 or 10 pin connector? I know there are adaptor leads that go from 14 pin to 10 pin and from 14 pin to 26 pin. Sometimes different brands use different pin numbers for recording function video playback/confidence etc. When you want to change connections in the connectors you must be able to work verry neatly.

Hi, Just discovered this site. I've got a pile of old PORTABLE U-matics to clear. There are 5 (five) BVU 50 525/NTSC machines which were working last time they were run-up, which was several years ago, and have blue Kangaroo cases. There is 1 (one) BVU 110 525/NTSC machine with BK 112 time-code generator, also with Kangaroo case...good condition but not used recently. There is 1 (one) BVU 150 625/PAL machine with time-code and Kangaroo case. Basically good condition, but due a service. Also three longish 14-pin umbilical cables and a couple of dozen U-matic tapes (both sizes and assorted lengths). Also 2 (two) BVU/14-pin backs for Sony BVP 330 camera, complete with battery box clips and 1 (one) only battery box for BP 90 or similar.I am looking for offer, preferably for the lot, but will be happy to clear individual items.I am based in South-East England (S.E.London, North Kent). JMThe VO-8800 needs a good quality supply of 1,5 amp. But if you connect a camera to the recorder you need to check how much the camera uses. Use a good quality power supply. I use a 5 amp CB supply with a VO-8800 and Panasonic WV-F700. This supply runs to hot although it is rated for 5 amp. continuously and 7 amp. peak! So I am on the look out for a better quality supply.

Hi Steve,

I just dug out an old VO-4800 while having a clearout and can tell you a little about the batteries I have here. The are made by Chloride-Gates Energy and the model is Cyclon 60. They are in a plastic box which mesures 124mmx67mmx67mm and have a 100mm flying lead terminated in a 2.1mm dc power plug.

Inside the box are 6 cells of approx D size and a small pcb. The pcb has a piece of 20A fuse wire and nothing else. The cells themselves are Chloride CYCLON's and are marked as 2 Volts 2.5Ah so are probably Pb-Sn (Lead-Tin).

This type of battery pack is a breeze to make yourself and you could also take advantage of modern battery technology and use 10 Ni-Mh (Nickel-Metal-Hydride)cells that do not suffer from memory effects. I would be tempted to just buy some tagged Ni-Mh cells from CPC, an inline fuse holder and a 2.1mm power plug. You should be able to make a pack with nearly twice the capacity, probably about 4500mAh, in the same package size.

The only drawback is you wont be able to use the original charger as this will be a constant voltage charger and modern cells require a constant current charger.

You can still get Pb-Sn cells, and make a pack compatable with your charger, from http://www.strikalite.co.uk at about £5 .30 each cell compared to about £2.50 a cell for 3500mAh Ni-Mh from CPC.I wouldn't bother trying to find an original battery as Pb-Sn cells have a short shelf life if stored in a dischared state so even if you find one you will probably end up having to replace the cells. Hope this info is helpfull to you.

Cheers, Brett

Hi, Can any of you give me advice what U-Matic I should start with. I thought that a portable machine (ebay Item # 1350587940 ) would be best to start with (so i can have the camera recordings go straight on to umatic to prevent extra loss normally involved with converting video from one format to another) and then build up the system as I find more machines.

Roger,

Check the meter on your VO-8800. One setting tells you if the supply voltage is high enough.

I guess by meter you mean the "bat" meter ?in that case the main supply(14v)is there ,so no problem on that onein the supply area of the bottom pcb thare are some points marked 5 v , 10 v and 6 voltwhere the 6 and 10 volt aren't there just a minor 2 volts going up and down about 0.5 volts

Sorry this is only lossely related to Umatics ( well its plugged into one anyhow) I have a DXC M2 that works fine in Daylight, but in doors the image is very red like the gain needs turning down on the red tube ? When the lens cap is on its still red. The auto WB works fine but when you try to manually adjust the black balance it won't do it and sort of locks up. Unfortunately I have no service manual and there are more pots inside than at Woodstock !!! Are any of you out there familiar with tube camera's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once again sorry for posting it here ( If all else fails it will make a nice anchor.)

Hi,

I just picked up a Sony VO-5850 and it plays a pre-recorded 197 KCA-60 tape fine, but I can't record on it. Neither can I record on a 187 KCA-40 tape. By not record,I mean the record light doesn't come on and the program is not recorded.I have all the manuals and the red record buttons are in place on the tapes andthe program source is coming from a VO5600 and all the settings are correct.I can record from the 5850 to the 5600 but not from the 5600 to the 5850.I can even record from either machine to a separate VHS machine.

The record light on the 5850 comes on when there is no tape in the machine. So, are these the incorrect type of tapes for recording to a 5850 or is there a problemwith my 5850.

Thanks,

John

Roger,

OK. If you are not in a hury we can have a look at it this weekend. I have the manual and repaired a couple of VO-8800 in the past. We can mail outside the chat page in Dutch if you want.

Steve it looks like the black level of the red tube is to high. If that is the case the camera won't auto black balance and you will have red in the dark areas. If you want to realigne a (tube) camera you need grey and colour charts (and they are expensive) an oscilloscope and vectorscope. This is a job for a specialist. If you are able to check the black levels for the three tubes you can try to re-aligne this. Before you touch a potentiometer mark it so you can always return it to the old position.

Hi, I was wondering whether or not Ulead has a program that can creat chapter tracks on a VCD. Can I have the name of the program and how it works? If Ulead doesn't have the program, are there any other programs available that can carry out this function? Thanks for your time.

I am doing research into the effects of binaural beat and high frequency sound. The preliminary work has been done and the results are promising. Unfortunately, to complete the tests I need to obtain new software that will do the required job and I have been having difficulty finding software that has the frequency range that I need.

I am trying to find an audio generator program that will generate a minimum of two tones at the same time, each tone set at a different frequency, one tone each to right and left speakers. Both tones must be as accurate as possible (to a 10th of a hz) and be able to be set anywhere between 500hz and 20khz.

Can anyone put me on to a program that will meet my needs?

Re: Sony BVU800P Umatic Recorder.

Has Anyone Experienced This Problem ? Basically, I am using analogue equipment to make a training video. In studio, I am assemble editing each scene. And I'm having difficulty getting an acceptable quality, especially on the dubbed VHS copy. Currently, I have the following analogue system:Panasonic NV-MS4B - SVHS - Analogue Camera.Panasonic WJ-AVE5 Digital AV Mixer.Panasonic NV-FS200B SVHS Video Recorder.Sony BVU800P Umatic Recorder. I'm using the Sony Umatic as the Master recorder, and feeding the camera signal output, to the Sony, via the mixer.I will then later dub copies direct from the Sony Master, onto VHS tape, for distribution. Any Ideas ?? Regards Mike.

For those of you looking for manuals:I found this Australia based company, High Country Service Data. They sell and rent(!) service manuals for just about anything. I purchased service manauls for Sony 5-series, 7-series and BVU-800. Some manuals are pricy but well worth it.Their website: http://www.hcsd.com.au
