Hi
Is there any body out there who needs a Umatic player? I have recently acquired 16 of them of various types, 5030,5040,7030,7040 etc. all that I have tried work ok. What I would really like is a second recorder and control unit to finish my edit suite and would quite happily trade players (maybe even pay cash!) to acquire these.
New to the format, but enjoying learning how to use it!
Tony
If there is any Marija with the maiden surname "Matic" please contact me.
Sergio, a BVU will only do highband U-Matic tapes. It is said that some TBCs are capable of making a colour image out of it when playing low-band.
Hi, I have acquired some new Sony U-Matic video cassettes from a broadcast video production studio that recently went bankrupt.
I have:a case of 10 New Sony KCS-10BRS for $29.99a case of 9 New Sony KCS-10BRS for $26.99a case of 6 New Sony KCA-30BRS for $17.99
I have put them up for auction on eBay @http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7543270975&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IThttp://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7543268854&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IThttp://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7543269518&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

Hi all,
I am currently doing a placement at GMPT-SE (Saab) in Sweden and one of my tasks is to produce a visualisation of a gearbox in HYPERWORKS MotionView v7.0. I have never worked nor heard about this program but neither has anyone here at GMPT-SE. The HELP seems to expect you already know the program or worked with the older versions so is not exactly helpfull if you need to know the very basics. The tutorials are the same, I have been going through most of them by now and it just doesn't seem to make much more sence than it did before. Everything I find out I am writing down in a manual for the next 'sucker' that has to work with it.
The idea is to bring in files from either ADAMS or UNIGRAPHICS, these should then get a data input from MATLAB which should make the whole thing run in such a way a film can be taken from it for a board presentation but with the posibility of changing the data at anytime. So it can be used for future tests.
Now my question (or enormous cry for help more like) is the following, is there anyone who can provide me with a MANUAL for HYPERWORKS MotionView v7.0 on UNIX or anything else that is helpfull? Maybe manuals of older versions, links to forums, ... . Just anything that can get me started cause right now I feel pretty useless.
Thanks
Hi everybody. I am having one TV Bush 2867NTX and a VCR AKAI VS427EK. Both are not working. I could not find anyone for the repair. I am ready to sell them in very less price. Anyone interested. let me know
I have a Sony VO-5600 machine. Each time I try to watch a tape on it, however, it freezes up and the "stand-by" light goes on. Does anybody know what the problem is?thanks,Jesse
Sergio,
The BVU-950 does not play back low band!
Sorry, didn't see Erics message.
Jineen,It is good practice to wind and rewind the tapes maybe once a year. This is to prevent that one tape layer leaves a magnetic residue on to the next tape layer . 200 tapes, quite a task!I am not certain about the interval. Maybe once every two years is sufficient.Someone else knows?
Having not used Umatic formats for ages I've forgotten their ID's.I'm now in need of a LOW Band umatic REPLAY VTR (to play and "get" the image / sound tracks off and migrated to another format) and request that someone let me know the SONY MODEL NUMBERS (or other masnufacturer's brands i guess) so I can start looking to buy the right machine, probably on eBay. Thanks so much for any help advice you may offer.
David - if you are in the UK you need a VP5030 or VP7030 etc. ALL VO5 prefixed machines are lowband machines but some are PAL only. The two players I mentioned are multi-standard as well. Also the old VO2030 top loaders will do the job, they should be cheap enough if you can find one.

hello!
i have a VO-5630. while play back it stopped and the cassette did not turn anymore. i removed the tape manually and saw that the machine is in fast foward all the time and does not stop. the buttons @ front dont work.
how can i stop it...?
it doesnt eject the tape too....nothing works.
maybe there is a trick to reset the machine?
thanks a lot.
daniel
Broadcast Basement - dream on!
what do you mean?
more precise pls.
share yout secrets.
Daniel
How did you remove the tape? It appears that the machine still thinks the tape is in there.I don't have a 5630 to check how, but you will manually have to reset all the threading system to make it realise that the tape is gone. This will most likely involve a lot of turning gears.
Braodcast BasementLet me know if you want any more machines at those prices, I'll happily send them from Australia where they sell for about 50pounds or less.
thanks for your answer.
i removed it by opening the case.
reseting all the threading system seems very complicated. which gears i have to reset you dont know exactly?
if i put a cassette manually back into the 5630 it seems the machine dont have enough power to turn the tape...it only runs again if i remmove it again.
Daniel
Let me try to explain a few basics on tape transport. The tape is not pulled by the reels but by the capstan and a rubber pinch roller. Your problem could be one of two things: either the capstan motor isn't working or the pinch roller doesn't push on the capstan hard enough to pull the tape through.First check: See if the capstan is turning - the capstan is a small (about 2mm diameter) steel rod that should be turning fast, it is normally below the head drum, have a look at this pictire http://umatic.palsite.com/format.html If that is spinning. try manually push the pinch roller onto the tape and the capstan.Second check: If that works, you have to check the condition of the pinch-roller and the solenoid that applies the pressure.
Good luck
hi roderick.
first thanks again for your help.
http://dev.back2the90s.de/vo5630.jpg
is that what i marked up the capsan?
maybe you can explain what to do with that pic.
as far as i can see theres nothign turning exept the drum.
sorry for being very newbie like.
daniel
Hello, the capstan is just above where you have marked 2 on your picture. If your machine suddenly stopped while in play, then it is possible there is a problem with one of the reel tach sensors (could be dust or dirt in them). They sit under the reel tables. You would have to removed the elevator to get to the reel tables. Also, make sure your pinch roller isnt shinny and your belts/idler are in good shape. Some mechanical parts are still available from Sony.
hý ý am searching about sony vpk-720ps projection machines. is there anyone hear somethinks about this projection machine.

I have a total of 5 Sony UMatic decks that I would like to part with....all in good working order. Contact me for details. Located in Toronto.
Hello,I'm just a beginner. Have a VO5850p and a VO7030. I'm looking for user manuals for both machines and advice how to connect the VO7030 to my serial port on the PC. (jumper settings)Please, every info is very welcome.
Sorry, it's a VP7030 !
we have 2 sealed in orignal box, V-32 Helical scan Sony video tapes. Can anyone give us info on this?? Thanks Kathy
If anyone has Service manual for a Sony EVS-1000E (Hi-8 semi-pro edit deck) I would be interested in purchasing. Many thanks.
Hi there I'm new to this and have an OP 5630 machine, could anyone help me, what tapes are compatible with this system please.
Regards Bob
>>>>>we have 2 sealed in orignal box, V-32 Helical scan Sony video tapes. Can anyone give us info on this?? Thanks Kathy<<<<<
These tapes are 1/2" open reel tapes used on the old EIAJ and CV series VTRs. They're probably no more than curios now as the tape degenerates over the years. If an attempt is made to play these tapes it will probably stick to the drum, with disaterous results for the heads of the VTR. People do all sorts to recover the signals off tape in this condition. Including 'baking' the tape in an oven. If you know how to do this you don't need me to tell you how! If you don't; well find someone who does! It's a specialist job.
Broadcast basement. What colour is the sky on your planet? The machines you list are worth about 1/5 of what you're charging! As for the others looking for serial numbers, advice on flash, 3d animation and even someone with the surname 'Matic'; YOU'RE ALL IN THE WRONG £!&%ing place!
Nice to see the site still going!
Bob Hicks
Sony VO5630 or VP5630 take U-Matic low band tapes.
The machines i offer for sale are serviced and with warranty, hence the prices. Machines that turn up on ebay and the like are normally sold as is.Decks like VO-9600p that play/rec all formats (LB/HB/SP) are still in demand for transfer of archive material. Panasonic (in my opinion), make the best vhs's and models like AG-7700 and AG-8700 are top of the range in this respect but have long since out of production but there is demand for good second user machines, again for archive and transfer.DVD hasnt completely taken over yet.
hi there,
jipee, its working...after rolling thr mechanics back everything seems to make its job
i bought some old kca 60 and bca 60, to test the play and record funktions...but thre only sound i hear is a fast beeping sound, we uessed it was a timecode signal...but also our signal we recorded, a mic and a line signal, was just like this beeping...???
daniel
ok, this was the not working vo5630 :)
If you have a BVU 150 or a VO 8800 portable recorder don't try to modify it for larger tapes you will end up with nothing but trouble. There are some truly remarkable machines available now on EBAY, I just bought two BVU 800 's for less than $100 each. These are fantastic machines and will play any UMatic tape. I have seen PAL versions of these machines for about the same price. One problem, these things are HUGE and the shipping can cost several times what you pay for the machine.
Does anuone know if you can modify a VO-9800/VO-9850 to accept REF?And the tricky question: how?
I am trying to use a BVE-600 for A/B rolls but it looses sync when I use machines without REF In.
Have some U-Matic Recorders and player in very good/excellent condition: VP 7030, VP 5040, some VO 5630, VO 5859, BVU 800 (850?), BVU 150 with charging station and NC-Batteries, Editing controls and Remote Controls. Ask for prices, Must be taken in germany near Mainz/Frankfurt, shipment only at own risk.
hi!
can anyone tell me how Lowband tapes are labelled??
i bought some tapes on ebay but those were hiband...
and my vo-5630 can´t play them correctly.thanks a lot
Daniel
There is no difference in tapes for low-band or hi-band. The difference is in how the information is 'written' on the tape. You'll find that you can use these tapes to record and then playback on your 5630. If you wanted to watch the tapes you bought, you'll need another machine.
Anyone know the first thing about connected one of these machines to DV camera?
Many thanks rob
ah i understand...thanks a lot
i recorded a bit of music with the vo-5630.
but now there is the problem why i thought i need lowband tapes.
the music is on the tape but you can hear it only a little bit and very crispy.
maybe the head of the machine isnt working all right?
what do you think?
Phil you need a digital to analogue converter. This device works both ways:http://www.videomaker.com/scripts/article.cfm?id=8642
Hi all,I inherited a 197* JVC CR-6060U from my office and I can't keep it anymore. Any ideas on how much I can ask for it? I believe it's in working condition, but it has no wires. I also found an eBay seller with the right remote for it.
Thanks,Nawar
Daniel
Just a few suggestions:
What is the sound like when you playback the pre-recrded Hi-band tapes? There is no difference in audio between hi-band and low-band. If that is just as bad, clean the audio heads but normally when the heads are dirty the sound would be dull, not crispy. What do the VU meters show you? Any signal there? What is hooked onto the audio output of the VCR? Have you tried headphones?
hi Roderick:
the vu meters show in recordmode the signal all right and i can hear both, the clear sound in my headphones and in the output of the vcr.
so i guess the inputs are all right.
the strange sound is only on the recorded tape.
its very quietly and sounds like the box is damaged...
only dumb sound and noise....
but in record monitor mode its all right...
but it is not possible that all ten tapes i got are damaged....
Hi. Looking for any info I can find about a jvc gz-s5. It is a high-band saticon camera. Please give me any info on it.Thanks, Jon
Hi Daniel
There are three posibilities here:1- Heads are dirty - the audio heads are in the block at the top right-hand side of the video head drum. Carefully clean with alcohol and Q-tips. Also clean all the steel rods that guide the tape. Build-up of gunk on those effects the contact between the tape and heads.2- Tape path is incorrect. This is a lot more tricky. Try, gently, pushing the running tape up or down with a Q-tip. See if that changes the audio playback. If that is the problem, get some professional help to re-align the tape path.3- The playback PCB has issues. Can't help you there. You may want to look for another machine, repairs would most likely cost a multiple of the value of the machine.
Can anyone tell me where I can find information (Free) on how to calibrate an Ikegami HC300?
To Daniel,a tech told me that the problem with Sony Vo 5630 was the bearing under the head,if that goes the drum drops a bit and stuffs everything up,good luck

I have for sale a Sony DXC M7 camera. This camera has been little used and is in perfect working order. It comes with a 15X lens, service manual, instruction manual and a Sennheiser microphone. It puts out beautiful pictures, far superior to that digital cxxp.
I also have a Sony BVW35 BetacamSP field recorder for sale. This too has been very little used as it has always been my spare/backup machine. It is in very good condition, works perfectly, comes with a 26 way umbilical cable, service manual, flight bag, and does not suffer from any dents, digs, scrapes or scratches.
I am selling these items as a job lot and cannot separate them.I will also include a PAG ARP 124 NP1 Autoranging fast Charger,25 Sony SP Used once and 10 New Fuji M321SP 30 minute Tapes.
This is your chance to upgrade to the Betacam format at a very reasonable price.
I am asking £500.00. for this kit, which includes UK delivery. Please email for further details.
Hi,
I'm based in NYC and have some equipment that I would love to get rid of. It takes up space in the studio. I have the FP-Z31, a Sony VO-6800, and a Monitor(which I may keep) TN-22U. Best offer to get it off my hands would be great. I have some wonderful footage from the camera but it's been atleast 10 years since I've turned it on. I'll check it out and give a full update to an interested party.

Slightly off-topic but the Betacam page seem to have turned into an advertising page with little response to questions......I have a problem with my old BVW-40P, it won't power up. When I turn it on, the display lights up and the heads spin for a millisecond before it shuts down. I have to wait about ten minutes before I can make it do that again, otherwise it is just dead. Any ideas? I suspect the powersupply, but how do you get to the bugger without pulling the whole machine apart?
Josep
Manuals are hard to find due to Sony copyright. What connections are you after, I may be able to help.

I don't know what annoys me more - The fact that these Nigerian scammers think that the people on this site would be stupid enough to even contemplate buying a phone from them or the fact that that post hasn't been removed after a week!Really, can we clean these pages up a bit? i have couple of hundred umatic tapes , mixed-lo/hi/sp and various lengths, many 75 mins.if anyone can use these or knows of a school in africa that could use them, you can have them for FREE as long as you can collect. if you need delivery then ask for a qwuote.
I live in california. This looks like a great site. I just received hundreds u-matic tapes of all different lengths. They all have vintage programming on them. It is quite a collection. I'd love to view them. What would be a good cheaper u-matic model that would work for me. Nothing fancy. The tapes have many documentaries that were on BBC or PBS from the 80's I think. Is there a market for these tapes. Would folks on Ebay buy them?
Thanks to all!

Hi - I have several UMatic machines inc BVU 800P. I want to capture directly to my edit system but not using Composite out. I really want the best quality video out and wondered if the Dubbing cable VDC-5 would permit a better (SVHS??) signal for me?
So does anyone have advice and secondly has anyone got a dubbing cable that I can adapt to give the S signal out and S into my system?
thanks Chris

The problem you'll have with these tapes is that you have the find out what they are. There are three different ways U-matic can recors a tape: low-band, high-band and SP. Then, to make things more complex, there are 3 basic standards: PAL, NTSC & SECAM. The USA uses the NTSC system but Europe (except France which is SECAM) uses PAL.To solve the first problem, there are machines such as the VO-9800 or VO-9850 that will play all systems but only 1 standard (PAL, NTSC or SECAM) and there are machines such as the VO-7series that will play different standards but only low-band.......My advice: find yourself a nice VO-98** machine on eBay, shouldn't cost much more than $ 200 and see how you go. Being in the USA you'll should get a NTSC machine 'cause I assume most tapes would be recorded on that standard. If you get a lot of tapes without a picture and really fast sound, those are probably PAL tapes, you may want to look out for a cheap PAL machine. As to the value of the tapes, that will really depend on what's on them. U-matic tapes sell for dime-a-dozen but if it has some interesting footage you may get some collectors.
Good luckRoderick
Help! I just played a twenty minute casette in a VO-7600. After stopping it, I tried to rewind. The controls are all dead, and the standby light is illuminated. Repeated cycling power on/off fail to revive the beast. I remember this happened once before to me, but so long ago, I can't remember what to do.Is there an easy solution, or is it strictly a technician's job? Ion
